Come and Follow Me
Come and Follow Me
Scripture Focus:
“Then Jesus said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.’”
— Matthew 4:19 (NKJV)
There is no greater invitation in this lifetime than the one Jesus offers when He says, “Come, follow Me.” This simple yet powerful calling echoes through the pages of Scripture and into the depths of our hearts today. It’s the invitation to walk with the Savior—not because of who we are, but because of who He is.
When Jesus extended that call to the disciples, He knew exactly who He was choosing. He didn’t pick perfect people. He chose fishermen, tax collectors, doubters, zealots. He chose people with insecurities, brokenness, and baggage. And He hasn’t changed.
What is keeping you back?
Maybe you have accepted the invitation but you have not taken the next step to truly follow Him.
You may feel like you're not good enough, like you're not the first pick—or even a good pick. Maybe your past still echoes loudly, reminding you of where you’ve been. Maybe your present is messy, and your future feels uncertain. But Jesus still says, “Come.”
“I’ve got insecurities”—come.
“I’ve got brokenness”—come.
“I’ve got issues from my past”—come.
“Sometimes I don’t feel like a good pick”—come.
But He still said to me and you, “Come.”
That’s the beauty of grace: He knew what He was getting when He called you.
He knew about your flaws.
He knew about your fears.
He knew about your wounds, your weaknesses
And He still said, “Come.”
Just look at the cross.
Jesus wasn’t crucified alone. On either side of Him hung two criminals. One mocked Him, but the other—broken, condemned, and moments from death—looked at Jesus and said, “Remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” And Jesus, full of mercy, replied, “Today you will be with Me in paradise.”
Now, imagine that man showing up at the gates of heaven. An angel, a bit confused, asks, “On what basis are you here? You weren’t baptized. You never attended a worship service. You didn’t serve, tithe, or study the Scriptures. How are you qualified to be here?”
The man pauses and simply says,
“The Man on the middle cross… He said…come.”
That’s grace. That’s the gospel. That’s our invitation.
When you say yes to Jesus’ invitation to “Come,” you’re not just stepping into a moment—you’re stepping into a relationship. You don’t just become a follower—you become family. You don’t just walk behind Him—you walk with Him.
That truth is beautifully captured in the worship song “Oceans” by Hillsong United.
“Oceans” is a song of surrender, trust, and intimate relationship with God. It captures the journey of faith—how God calls us out into uncertain, even terrifying places, not to drown us, but to grow us. It’s about stepping out onto the waters of the unknown and learning to walk, not by sight, but by trust.
It begins with the call:
“You call me out upon the waters, the great unknown where feet may fail.”
This echoes the voice of Jesus saying, “Come.” He doesn’t call us into comfort—He calls us into transformation. Into deeper waters. Into mystery.
But here’s the beautiful part—He doesn’t leave us there alone.
“Your grace abounds in deepest waters. Your sovereign hand will be my guide.”
Even in the depths, He is near. His grace doesn't run out in the deep—it overflows there. Where our strength ends, His presence begins.
And then there’s that unforgettable declaration:
“I am Yours and You are mine.”
It’s not just a relationship—it’s identity.
It’s not just about answering a call—it’s about belonging.
When you say yes to Jesus, you are no longer just someone walking behind Him—you become someone walking with Him.
You are His. And He is yours.
So if you’re weary today, if you feel disqualified, if you're carrying things you wish you could leave behind—just remember:
He knew what He was getting when He said, “Come.” And He still wanted you.
And now that you’ve said yes, you are no longer on the outside looking in.
You belong.
You are His. And He is yours.
Reflection Questions:

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for knowing us completely and still calling us to follow You. Thank You for not only forgiving us but for claiming us as Your own. Help us to walk confidently in that truth—that We are Yours, and You are ours. Remind us daily that You chose us on purpose and that You are not surprised by anything we bring to You. Give us the courage to say “yes” to Your invitation every day, and help us live in the joy of belonging to You. In Your name, Amen.
